People-first Leader

Personal:
Connect with those around you (friends, family, colleagues). Listen and reflect. Understand their feelings and avoid being judgmental. Encourage and offer insights versus suggestions. This behavior will demonstrate you have empathy, respect and concern for them and are not about self-promoting.

Professional:
Engage, inspire, and empower. When you are a humble leader, you will bring out the very best in your employees. When you empower your workforce, you will draw out ideas and solutions that may allow for improvement or growth that otherwise may have been overlooked.

Highly driven servant leader
Many interpret servant leadership as a passive act. This assessment is far from the truth. I consider it my duty to ensure the people working for or with me are successful, and in turn, I will be successful as well. I am a highly driven individual and will ensure that the vision of the business as well as my vision for my teams are are clearly understood and that the teams have the tools they need to execute that vision.

Hands-on leader
Although I lead and coach my teams to succeed, I will not ask them to perform work I would not be willing to do myself. I ensure my team members at every level of the organization feel comfortable connecting with me as well as feeling “safe” to ask for help should the need arise.
Coach
Having been trained and certified as a master quality coach, I have learned over the years that direct discussions are far more productive than talking around an issue. I ask probing questions to help employees learn to problem solve rather than “suggesting” a solution–their ideas are likely better than my own! I am also direct about coaching on areas of improvement so that human resource concerns have the potential to avoid becoming human resource problems.
