Richard is a member of a large family where he was the youngest of seven boys. He showed an affinity for technology at an early age, and was selling self-built theatrical lighting consoles by age 12. As someone who is a genealogy hobbyist, he was intrigued by his grandfather’s WWI submarine duty and decided early to follow in his footsteps into the United States Navy. He attended a Naval Academy preparatory high school and received a four-year Naval scholarship to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He later continued his education, receiving his MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Having moved many times during military service as well as business-related or family moves, he has lived in 14 states (so far!). He was born in New York, grew up in Connecticut and attended high school in New Jersey. He graduated from a university in Massachusetts and spent summers living/working in North Carolina. Upon graduation, he received his commission as a Naval Officer, home-based in Pennsylvania, and completed his training in Maryland, Florida, South Carolina and Rhode Island. He performed tours of duty in California and Virginia. After leaving the Navy, he lived in Kentucky and Ohio while working for the General Electric Company. With professional moves, he returned to Florida and North Carolina where he now resides. He has also been able to visit an additional 25 states. All told, he has lived in or visited 78% of the United States

Richard has had the privilege of extensive international travel both for business and pleasure, having worked in or visited 45 countries (or protectorates) on 4 continents.
Richard has been married to his wife, Karen, for over 30 years with three adult children: Cynthia, Benjamin, and Allyssa.
His animal family is also a significant part of his life, with numerous dogs and cats in the household.
In his free time, Richard loves to travel the word and experience new cultures.
